Active and interactive learning has proved very effective for learning Arabic. Students seem to enjoy and show significant progress in mastering Arabic. These images illustrate Arabic lessons in Class IX / 1 on the competency standard Understanding an Oral Discourse through Listening to Passages about Religious Activities and the basic competency Finding general or detailed information from various forms of simple oral discourse using the past tense and negative words in sentences.
During the lessons, students were actively involved in group work, discussion and reviewing the work of other groups. Core activities included:
- Students ordered a randomly mixed collection of sentences to make a passage of writing.
- Students read, understood and found information from the passage.
- Students assessed each others' ordering of the sentences based on what they had read.
- Students talked about things they had not fully understood in their group discussions (the teachers was involved as an active member of the discussion).
- The teacher provided reinforcement of what the students had understood and learned.
At the end of the lesson, the teacher gave an oral assessment and congratulated the best group. Then the teachers gave enrichment tasks for the students to do at home.
